Larry Sowell, originally from
Rockford, Illinois, has recently completed a tour as lead soloist
for the Nathaniel Dett Chorale, Canada's first professional choral
group dedicated to Afrocentric music. Larry was one of twenty-one
classically trained singers selected to be apart of the ensemble
celebrated for sharing the stage with such internationally
recognized artists as opera star Kathleen Battle, the Toronto
Symphony Orchestra, and Juno Award - winning jazz pianist Joe Sealy.
The ensemble has also performed at events honoring world leaders
such as Nelson Mandela and Archbishop Desmond Tutu. Larry's oratorio
solo captured the hearts of both audiences and critics alike. Susan
Pena of the Reading Eagle describes Larry's vocal ability in Voices
of the Diaspora as " clear and powerful." Donna Michelle - St.
Bernard of AfroToronto writes "Larry's heart rending song shines at
the point of the program when you think you have seen what everyone
can do." |
